Using Static Var Generator (SVG) capacitance to modify reactive power, Static Var Generator (SVG) provides power quality enhancements to the systems. It further provides associated reactive power compensation with demand from sources, for the benefit of AC motors in keeping track of a power factor, reducing energy wastage, and enhancing performance with industrial appliances.

    working principle

    The Static Var Generator (SVG) utilizes controllable power electronic devices (such as IGBTs) to form a self-commutated bridge circuit, which is connected in parallel with the power grid through reactors. By adjusting the amplitude and phase of the output voltage on the AC side of the bridge circuit, or by directly controlling the AC side current, the SVG can quickly absorb or deliver the required reactive power, thereby achieving rapid dynamic adjustment of reactive power.
    The voltage source inverter consists of two parts: a DC capacitor and an inverter bridge, with the inverter bridge made up of controllable semiconductor devices (IGBTs). By adjusting the switching of the IGBT devices in the inverter bridge, the amplitude and phase of the voltage converted from DC to AC can be controlled. The entire device functions as a phase-shifting power source, and by detecting the required reactive power in the system, it can quickly deliver reactive power of equal magnitude and opposite phase, achieving local balance of reactive power and maintaining real-time high power factor operation of the system.

    The difference between SVG (Static Var Generator) and SVC (Static Var Compensator)

    Compared with the traditional SVC device represented by TCR, the regulation speed of the static var generator (SVG) is faster and the operation range is wider. Moreover, after adopting multiple and equal PWM technical measures, the content of carrier frequency harmonics in compensation current is reduced. More importantly, the reactor and capacitor elements used in SVG are much smaller than those used in SVC, which will greatly reduce the volume of the device. VPV series low voltage static var generator (SVG) has such advantages, which represents the development direction of dynamic var compensation device. The PV series SVG developed and produced by our company realizes the comprehensive coverage of power consumption systems and is widely used in different industries and working conditions. It is divided into 200V series, 400V series, 690V series, and high-voltage series according to the user's service voltage level. The modularization of the power unit makes it easy to expand the capacity of the device, and the independence of the module greatly improves the reliability of the whole machine.
