    Functions of Reactive Power Automatic Compensation Controller

    Principle of Reactive Power Automatic Compensation Controller 

    The low-voltage reactive power automatic compensation controller determines the phase difference between the current in one line (for example, Line A) being sampled in the three-phase power supply with respect to the voltages of the other two lines (for example, Lines B and C). After some calculation is performed, the real-time power factor of the current power grid is determined. It then compares this power factor against the set switching-in and switching-out thresholds. During the entire duration of the switching delay, if the power factor is within the switching threshold, no action will be taken. If it is less than the switching-in threshold, one group of capacitors will be switched in. If it is greater than the switching-out threshold or if the power factor is ever found to be negative, one group of already switched-in capacitors will be switched out. The whole comparisons and switching action are repeated after the next switching delay until the current power factor is found to be within the switching threshold.

    During switching, in case the voltage observed is more than the corresponding overvoltage protection threshold installed, all the already connected capacitors will be switched out group-wise; however, if the voltage rises beyond 10% of the selected overvoltage protection threshold, entire switching will take place in respect of already switched-on capacitors as a safeguard for the capacitors. In case undervoltage lockout is detected in the switching voltage while switching, the action will be interrupted to protect the system from cycling switching.
