Current limiting and interrupting capabilities
When a short circuit occurs in a circuit breaker, the contacts open quickly and an arc is generated, which is equivalent to introducing a rapidly increasing arc resistance in the circuit, thereby limiting the increase of fault current. The shorter the disconnection time of the circuit breaker, the closer its Ics (operating short-circuit breaking capacity) is to Icu (ultimate short-circuit breaking capacity), and the better the current limiting effect, which can significantly reduce the adverse effects of short-circuit current on the circuit breaker and electrical equipment such as electromagnetic effects, dynamic effects and thermal effects, thereby extending the service life of the circuit breaker.
Short circuit protection
Short circuit protection means instant tripping when a short circuit occurs. The protection setting value should be adjusted in time after the load changes to prevent the setting value from being too low, causing frequent tripping and affecting the power supply quality; or the setting value from being too high, which cannot effectively protect the circuit and equipment.
Overload delay protection
Overload delay protection means that when the load current exceeds the rated range of the equipment and may cause damage to the equipment, the protection device can cut off the power supply within a certain period of time. Overload involves the process of heat accumulation, so the protection action does not need to be too fast. For short-term overcurrent, the protection device should not operate.
Isolation function
The isolation function requires that the leakage current after the circuit breaker is disconnected will not cause harm to personnel or equipment. After multiple short-circuit trips, the switch performance may degrade, resulting in increased leakage current. For personal safety, leakage currents below 30mA are considered safe. However, in harsh environments, leakage currents exceeding 300mA for more than 2 hours may damage the insulation, causing a phase-to-ground short circuit and possibly a fire.
Leakage protection
There are two types of leakage protectors: thermal magnetic and electronic. Compared with thermal magnetic, electronic leakage protectors have the advantages of small size, high precision, high sensitivity, etc., but poor anti-interference ability. Currently, electronic leakage protectors are the main ones on the market. When the leakage current reaches the set value, the execution circuit receives the induced voltage signal on the secondary side of the zero-sequence current transformer, drives the switch contacts to output the leakage protection signal, and triggers the release to cut off the power supply.The leakage tripping current setting value of the main terminal switch is 30mA, while the leakage tripping current setting value of the upstream branch switch is 300mA. Arc faults have a high risk of fire, and short-circuit protection is difficult to effectively block. However, the leakage protector can reliably disconnect the grounding fault to prevent electric shock and phase-to-ground short-circuit accidents.
