Production Introduction
BY91-APF active power filter (APF) is a new type of power electronic device used to dynamically suppress harmonics and compensate reactive power. It detects the load current with sampling circuit, extracts the harmonic component in the load current through internal DSP calculation, and drives IGBT, The control inverter generates a harmonic current which is equal to the harmonic current of the load and in the opposite direction and injects into the power grid to achieve the purpose of filtering. According to the same principle, APF can also compensate the negative sequence current component of asymmetric three-phase circuit, to realize the three-phase unbalance compensation and reactive power compensation.

The principle of active power filter
An Active Power Filter (APF) consists of a storage DC power supply formed by a DC reactor or capacitor. The energy stored in the reactor or capacitor is converted into an AC current with the required frequency and waveform through an inverter, and then injected into the power supply line via a transformer. The pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverter also has the function of supplying electrical energy to the DC reactor or capacitor, and this process is directly controlled by its control circuit. An Active Power Filter is composed of two major parts, namely the command current operation circuit and the compensation current generation circuit (which consists of a current tracking control circuit, a drive circuit, and a main circuit). The basic working principle of an Active Power Filter is as follows: By detecting the voltage and current of the object, the command signal of the compensation current is calculated through the command current operation circuit. This signal passes through the compensation amplification circuit to obtain the compensation current. The compensation current cancels out the harmonics and reactive currents to be compensated in the load current, ultimately compensating for the expected power supply current.

Filter out current harmonics
- It can efficiently filter out various harmonics from the 2nd to the 25th order in the load current, thus making the distribution network clean and efficient and meeting the requirements of national standards for distribution network harmonics. This product truly achieves adaptive tracking compensation. It can automatically identify changes in the overall load and the harmonic content of the load and quickly track and compensate. It responds to load changes within 80 μs and achieves complete tracking compensation within 20 ms.
Improve system imbalance
- It can completely eliminate system imbalance caused by harmonics. When the equipment capacity permits, it can compensate for the system fundamental negative-sequence and zero-sequence unbalanced components according to user settings and moderately compensate for reactive power. On the basis of ensuring the harmonic filtering function, it effectively improves the system imbalance.
Suppress power grid resonance
- Suppress power grid resonance. It will not resonate with the power grid, and within its capacity range, it can also effectively suppress the resonance of the power grid itself. This is something that passive filter devices cannot achieve.
Multiple protection functions
- It has multiple protection functions such as overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, excessive temperature, measurement circuit fault, and lightning strike to ensure the safe operation of the device and the power system. It can also automatically exit operation when the load is light, fully considering operational economy.

Wiring method
The LOAD terminal is linked to the load. Specifically, N is attached to the neutral wire, while L is connected to the live wire. The three E’s on the right are earthed, with N linked to the neutral wire and L connected to the live wire. This represents the power supply end. The wiring configuration is as follows: Input L is connected to terminal 1, N is connected to terminal 2; Output L’ is connected to terminal 3, N’ is connected to terminal 4; the ground wire is properly grounded.
