Self-healing low-voltage capacitors provide reactive power compensation in power systems for inductive loads, thereby improving power factor, increasing voltage quality, and decreasing line losses. Their self-healing ability allows the capacitor to self-recover its insulation property upon partial breakdown so that the functionality and reliability of the equipment is enhanced. These capacitors are compact and easy to install and maintain, making them popular in low-voltage distribution systems. Smart capacitors are reactive power compensation equipment with advanced features. They are designed with sophisticated technologies such as measuring and controlling units, thyristor composite switching units, and protection units to accurately and rapidly compensate for the reactive power in an electric system. Typically smaller and lighter, smart capacitors manage reactive power compensation independently. The intelligent capacitor can showcase in real time through data monitoring and the high-definition liquid crystal display window three-phase voltage, three-phase current, power factor, and the operational status of the capacitor; thus, allowing users a detailed understanding of the power system's operating status. Besides, should there be any system malfunction(s) like overvoltage, overcurrent, or very low power factor, the intelligent capacitor shall immediately sound the alarm to safeguard the equipment's operation. Molded case circuit breakers are available in intelligent capacitors with higher interrupting capacity ratings which are required for severing the current flow during overload or a short circuit.
