Working principle

The difference between traditional capacitors and intelligent capacitors
- Modular Structure: Smart capacitors have a modular structure, making them compact, easy to wire on-site, and convenient to maintain. Expanding the reactive power compensation system can be achieved simply by increasing the number of modules.
- High-Quality Capacitors: They use self-healing low-voltage compensation capacitors, which are equipped with built-in temperature sensors to monitor the internal heating of the capacitors, thus providing over-temperature protection.
- Embedded Switching Module: Smart capacitors come with an embedded switching module. This module consists of thyristors, magnetic latching relays, zero-cross triggering circuits, and thyristor protection circuits, enabling “zero switching” of the capacitors, ensuring that the switching process does not cause inrush current or operational overvoltage. The switching module has a fast response time and can be operated frequently.
- Comprehensive Protection Design: Smart capacitors feature functions such as power failure protection, short-circuit protection, voltage phase loss protection, and over-temperature protection, effectively ensuring the safety of the capacitors and extending the lifespan of the equipment.
- Advanced Control Technology: The controlled physical quantity is reactive power, utilizing reactive power flow prediction and delayed multi-point sampling technology to ensure that switching occurs without oscillation. During heavy loads, reactive power is fully compensated.
- Anti-Oscillation Switching Technology: A unique design principle is employed to prevent compensation failure or over-compensation caused by controller malfunctions, thus avoiding oscillation during capacitor switching.
- Automatic Reactive Power Compensation: Smart capacitors automatically switch on and off based on the magnitude of the load’s reactive power, dynamically compensating for reactive power and improving power quality. They can be used individually or in multiple units connected together.
- User-Friendly Interface: The interface displays operating parameters such as current, voltage, and reactive power. It shows the switching status, fault status of the composite switching module, and communication status. It also allows for easy switching between debugging/operational modes and manual/automatic operation functions.

When they have been disconnected from the power supply, capacitors require the voltage residuals to be reduced to 10% of their rated voltages before they can operate again.
